Pirelli bring two development rear tyres to Magny-Cours as their solutions are unveiled
The WorldSBK Tyre Supplier have opted for two development rear tyres as part of their allocation for the French Round
The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heads to the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours for the 2025 French Round, and Pirelli have revealed the tyres teams and riders will have to compete with. The front tyres are standard solutions but there are three rear options to choose from in France, including two rear development solutions, which have both been used before, for the SCX and SCQ tyres.
THREE REAR TYRE CHOICES: one standard, two development options
The choices for the rear tyre come down to the standard SC0 soft tyre and a development SCX, the E0126, and SCQ, the E0479 – with those the only choices for the supersoft and extrasoft tyres respectively. The SCX development option has been used three times throughout 2025 while the SCQ tyre, with use restricted to practice, Tissot Superpole and the Tissot Superpole Race, made its debut at Misano. In case of wet weather, the standard intermediate and rain tyres are available.
STANDARD SOLUTIONS FOR THE FRONT: medium and hard tyres
For the front, it’s a choice of two tyres and both come from the standard range of tyres. The SC1 medium is the softest of the two available, with the SC2 hard the other option that can be used. The SC1 is widely used across the season due to its versatility at different venues, however sometimes riders will select the SC2 as it offers better mechanical resistance and greater protection from wear. If it rains, riders can choose from the standard intermediate or rain tyres, depending on how heavy the rain is falling.
WORLD SUPERSPORT OPTIONS: two at the front, two at the back
The WorldSSP field also have two front tyre options to choose from. The softest of them is the SC1 medium and it’s joined by the SC2 hard tyre. At the rear, the SC0 soft is available to choose from, as is the SCX supersoft – both from the standard range of tyres for the WorldSSP field. Of course, rain is always a possibility at Magny-Cours and for both the front and rear, the standard SCR1 rain tyre is available.
PIRELLI SAYS: “The Magny-Cours circuit is characterised by a smooth and non-abrasive asphalt, which offers little grip and makes the work of the tyres particularly delicate”
Explaining the tyre choices, Pirelli’s Motorcycle Racing Director, Giorgio Barbier, said: “The Magny-Cours circuit is characterised by a smooth and non-abrasive asphalt, which offers little grip and makes the work of the tyres particularly delicate. In similar contexts, the E0126 supersoft has already proven to be an effective solution, offering the excellent level of grip of the SCX combined with high consistency of performance thanks to the new development casing. In the three rounds in which it has been used, it has been widely appreciated, being the main choice for the long races and, in Cremona, also for the Superpole Race. If the asphalt temperatures are adequate, Magny-Cours will be an ideal opportunity to gather further confirmation on a very special track, which connects a mix of corners and chicanes inspired by the most iconic sections of other famous circuits. Last year, with temperatures between 20 and 27°C, the standard SC0 was also used by several riders: it will therefore be interesting to see what conditions arise and what technical choices emerge. However, we are confident that this allocation will allow us to cover a wide range of conditions. As already at Misano and Balaton, the development E0479 will also be available at Magny-Cours, with SCQ compound, dedicated to Superpole and the short race. In the Italian round, when the conditions allowed it, it gave excellent feedback both in terms of time and feeling from the riders.”
